For some years the EHDC has organised a big dragonboat event every September; in which not only the best teams of Holland participate, but also teams from Germany, Czechoslovakia and other countries.
Races are held for the open class across 200, 500 and 2.000 meters, for the Dutch teams the races count towards the annual NDBF-cup series. The races are held on the national rowing complex ‘De Bosbaan‘, in the beautiful atmosphere of a the Amsterdamse Bos, a large public wood and parklands located south-west of Amsterdam.

Club information in English
Although our main website is in Dutch we are very accommodating of non-dutch speakers. We have several members with limited language skills, and frequent guests and visitors from overseas for our races. This corner of the website is designed to give some practical information (contacts, membership and route) as well as a very brief summary of the clubs history and strengths.
Membership
If you would like to give Dragonboating a try in the Amsterdam area we are very happy to offer cheap tryout sessions for anyone who is interested. These take place as part of our normal training schedule, you pay 5 euro for every session. If you want to be a member you pay 110 euro a year or less when you step in during the season, that runs from march till half oktober.
Full membership of the EHDC brings:
- Regular training sessions and races.
- Social and recreational activities.
- Use of club equipment and facilities for training and racing.
- Equipment and clothing purchase at advantageous rates.
Training
Training normally takes place once a week on tuesday from 7 pm, and sometimes also on sunday. Sessions are organised by email beforehand; because not all members live in the Amsterdam area we need to confirm sufficient numbers, 8 minimum, before the practice. Please contact us if you would like to turn up for a trial session to avoid disappointment.
If you are attending training for the first time please be aware that this is a team watersport! You’ll definitely be getting a bit wet, exercising vigorously, and expected to follow instructions from the Steersman immediately.
An healthy attitude to water is required, whilst it has been many years since there was any kind of incident during training you will be on a small boat on a lake; care and attention is required. Life preservers are provided for your safety and are mandatory for anyone without strong swimming skills.
Please bring a full change of clothing including footware for after the training session, sports clothing appropriate for the weather should be worn in the boat. Footware in the boat is not necesscary but recommended, plastic sandals or trainers are appropriate (they will get wet!), a lightweight windproof top is advised, light wetsuits are heartily recommended.
On Tuesdays we gather at the clubhouse between 19:00 and 19:30, change and launch the boat. We normally train for an hour, then (after recovering the boat and getting out of wet clothing) have a coffee, cookies, and some social time/discussions about the club etc.
